We are now into night #4 of Caden sleeping in his "big boy bed". Although it's not the final big boy bed, we did convert his crib into a toddler bed. He has done great and is thrilled about the transition. The first night he woke up a few times, but since then he's slept his normal amount at night and at nap time.
Just after we finished putting the railings on, he climbed onto his bed and couldn't stop smiling and squealing....this video is dark, but it gives an accurate account of the excitement.
The ironic thing is that we made the move in hopes he would get out of bed on his own and play in the mornings letting mom and dad have a few more minutes of sleep rather than a 6 AM wake-up call. No such luck. When he was in his crib, he would rock back and forth on his feet while holding onto the crib railing and whining till we came in and got him. Now, he just stands up, does the same rocking motion, and whines until we open his door and tell him he can get out.

That turned into our "problem" with Nathan... when we moved him to a big mattress we found that we didn't need an alarm anymore, we wake up to little man's face just inches from our noses every morning :) The problem right now is that when Nathan wakes up in the night he comes straight into our room instead of being held captive in his crib where eventually he went back to sleep... if you've got any suggestions for that one they'd be much much appreciated :)
Yeah, the problem when they're in a big boy/girl bed, is that they will come in your room, get in bed with you, and say, "Mommy, Daddy, wake up!" But it's nice nonetheless - IF it's at a decent time!
Laura, anytime when our daughter comes in on us in the middle of the night (which is pretty rare), I just walk her back to her bed and say, "It's not time to get up yet. Go back to sleep." I sing her a lullaby and her eyes are pretty heavy after that. Works ever time. Give it a try!
Yeah Caden!! This is a huge step. When my Joshua moved into his big boy bed, he would yell for us in the morning (before 6am, just like Caden!). Then, after a couple of days, I said, "You know buddy, you can just come out of your room when you wake up." He said, "Oh, okay." He just needed a little instruction!
I'm hoping you don't get any middle-of-the-night visits!
Way to go, Caden! You are getting to be such a big boy! You are going to be a wonderful big brother when your new baby gets here!
